Stem-line karyotypes of 4 carcinomas of the cervix uteri

Chromosome studies on each of 4 cervical carcinomas showed that most of the tumor
metaphases had a karyotype that was characteristic of the tumor or showed a random loss of
chromosomes, possibly artifactual, from this karyotype. Three of the tumors were near-
diploid, with characteristic (“stem-line”) karyotypes having 47, 48, and 44 chromosomes,
respectively: out of 37 metaphases from these tumors, 22 had the characteristic karyotype,
