Cases of fibrous dysplasia associated with hypophosphataemia, osteomalacia, or rickets
have been reported. McArthur et al reported four such cases involving children ranging from
ages 2 to 10.'These cases are analogous to the syndrome of “tumor rickets,” in which a
mesenchymal tumor causes hypophosphataemia, and there is improvement after the tumor
is removed.'It is postulated that a substance secreted by the tumor interferes with phosphate
